Rupture of Right Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm with Alternating Shunting into Right Atrium and Right Ventricle

چکیده
Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (SVA) is a rare cardiac anomaly that may be congenital or acquired. We report the case of a 29-year-old female who presented with a three-month history of exertional dyspnea. Cardiac auscultation revealed a grade III/VI continuous murmur along the right sternal border. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed alternating jet-flows into the right atrium (RA) and right ventricle (RV) during different phases of the cardiac cycle. The aortography revealed periodic movement of a jet of contrast medium, which was due to a long windsock SVA swimming between RA and RV. The aneurysm descended into the tricuspid orifice during diastole, and was possibly lifted by the leaflet of the tricuspid valve closure during systole. The patient underwent open-heart surgery to close the aneurysm ostium and directly suture the right atrial fistula.

Aneurysms of sinus of Valsalva are rare cardiac abnormalities. They are dilatations of the aortic sinuses and are classified as congenital or acquired. If located in the right coronary sinus they are usually ruptured into right heart chambers and frequently a ventricular septal defect coexists with this condition. This paper reports a 30-year-old woman with ruptured aneurysm of the right sinus ...
متن کاملA Case of Right Sinus of Valsalva Rupture with Dissection into Interventricular Septum Causing Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction
Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (SVA) is an uncommon anomaly of the aorta. Rupture of SVA often precipitates dramatic clinical complications, including heart failures. Right SVAs are the most common type, and when they rupture, they usually rupture into the right ventricle or right atrium. Rupture into left ventricle or interventricular septum is rare. Herein, we report a case of right SVA rupture w...

Sinus of Valsalva aneurysms are uncommon. Aortic sinus aneurysm may be complicated by endocarditis or rupture. A 26 year old native Ghanaian presented with dyspnoea, raised jugular venous pressure (JVP), tender hepatomegaly, peripheral oedema, a thrill and a continuous murmur at the upper left sternal edge. Two-dimensional doppler echocardiography with colour flow mapping revealed a large aneur...

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE STUDY Rupture of the sinus of Valsalva is rare, and there is a higher incidence of such rupture in Oriental countries than elsewhere. The objective of this study is to present the pathologic features and the clinical outcome after surgery in such patients. METHODS Between 1980 and 2001, a total of 17 patients (15 males and 2 females) with ruptured aneurysm of sinus o...
متن کاملAortic sinus of Valsalva aneurysms simulating primary right-sided valvular heart disease.
While acute regurgitation is the most common valvular lesion associated with aortic sinus of Valsalva aneurysms, this report describes the pathological findings in five patients in whom primary right-sided valve dysfunction was simulated by sinus of Valsalva aneurysms. In two patients aneurysms of the noncoronary sinus projected into the right atrium at the level of the tricuspid valve and caus...
